Enter Easter

Why do we celebrate Easter? What is Easter for? I asked my 7 yo daughter these questions and she said, "It's the celebration of the resurrection of Jesus Christ". She's right. He died in the cross for us, but ressurected on the third day. Jesus lives and that is why we celebrate it with Easter. He did an atoning sacrifice so that we will be saved. His atonement made it possible for us to be forgiven from sins. All of these is a part of our Heavenly Father's marvelous plan.

After the church services yesterday, my daughters together with the rest of the kids belonging to the Primary Organization in our ward participated in an Easter Egg Hunt. Us leaders, my president, fellow counselor and secretary, prepared colored boiled eggs, surprise eggs and small pack of candies. We divided the kids into 2 groups for an organized egg hunting and glad that it was such a success.

Some surprise eggs loaded with candies.

I love my floral dress. So perfect for Easter.

Goofing around with my little miss.

This girl surely know how to make her Mama laugh. 😂

Did you get enough eggs, guys?

All smiles. Happy Easter! 🐇

My First Try on Wedding Makep

A woman is the loveliest on her wedding day. This saying is so true. I witnessed it myself when I saw how one of my cousins glowed beautifully after the help of a little makeup on her (civil) wedding day. She didn't know anyone to tap on a short notice as it was unexpected, so I volunteered to do her makeup using whatever I have in my beauty stash. Almost everything was done in rush, there were some mishaps, but thankfully, the wedding was a success and they are now officially a couple.

This is my pretty cousin on her special day.

The newlyweds with their baby bump.

A photo op with the couple after the ceremony.

So, like I mentioned in the title, this is my first time to do a wedding makeup. I just look at photos of some brides in Instagram and kind of imitate the colors. At first, the bride wanted a red lipstick. I tried MAC Ruby Woo on her but didn't compliment her looks very much. We switched to MAC Craving which is like pale plum, until finding another lipstick in my stash that I haven't used for a long time, the MAC Hot Gossip, which suited her perfectly. For the complete list of products I used, please refer to the following list.

What do you think? I know I can improve more. If you have suggestions, do write me in the comment section below. Thanks.

Keeping The Sabbath Day Holy

As a Latter-Day Saint, I always try my best to keep the Sabbath Day holy by going to church and dedicating the rest of the day to wholesome activities at home with my family. Last week, I had a bit of a challenge when hubby advised me to skip church because he's bringing the family to his soccer event. I told him firmly that I cannot miss the services and I am committed to serve as First Counselor in the Primary Organization of our Ward. Plus, I was the appointed teacher for Sharing Time that Sunday so being present is really a must.

I prayed to Heavenly Father to touch the heart of my dear husband to allow us to attend church and not his soccer match. That Saturday, he asked our elder daughter if she would want to go with him the next day. As usual, she chose to stay and go to church with me. This week, hubby told me to skip church again for us to spend a day on swimming and barbecue in a hot spring resort in Laguna. His reason, Saturday is crowded and Sunday is the best day to hit the road with less traffic. End of the story, the girls and I successfully attended church today as the swimming and barbecue was concluded yesterday.

Today being the Fast and Testimony Sunday, I am grateful to witness my 7 year old standing in front of other Primary children, bearing her testimony. I am very grateful for the calling that my Bishop has given me that I am able to watch my girls closely as they progress in church. I am also thankful that God gave me an understanding and loving husband who is finally showing bigger support to my membership in this church. I know that Heavenly Father blesses those who keep the Sabbath Day holy. I truly believe that Jesus Christ and Heavenly Father live and they love us so much. If we continue to strive for perfection, we shall see them someday. These I share in the holy name of Jesus, amen.

PS. Below are some photos taken after church services today. :)

Meatball Soup (Köfte Çorbası) + Cheese Toast (Peynirli Tost)

Soups are a staple among Turkish households esp. during colder months of the year. My mother-in-law would cook a tomato-based soup for dinner and that's all I could eat in order to be full. These days, hubby requests me to prepare at least 2-3 Turkish dishes every week. Here's one of his current favorite soups that is truly a delight when served hot with some slices of sourdough bread on the side.

Meatball Soup

Ingredients for meatball:
1/4 kilo ground beef
1/2 tsp cumin
salt and pepper to taste

Ingredients for soup:
2 small carrots, diced
2 medium potatoes, diced
2 gloves of garlic, chopped
1 small onion, chopped
2 tbsp tomato paste
salt and pepper to taste
cooking oil
vegetable stock or water

Mix all the meatball ingredients in a bowl. Form into small balls. Set aside.
Saute garlic and onion in oil until medium brown. Add carrots. Stir for 3 minutes before adding the potatoes. Keep stirring for the next 3 minutes. Add tomato paste and vegetable stock, mixing it very well. Cover and let it boil for 5 minutes. Add the meatballs. Let it boil for another 5 minutes. Season with salt and pepper. Cook until the edge of potatoes are smooth. Serve hot with crushed red pepper on top.

Cheese Toast

6 slices of sourdough bread
1 medium egg, beaten
1 cup shedded mozarella cheese
1/2 cup finely chopped parsley

Mix the last 3 ingredients. Spread some cheese mixture on the face of each bread. Arrange the bread in the oven and toast for 3 minutes or until the cheese has melted. Serve hot with soup.

Both the soup and the cheese toast can be served on its own. The toast can be eaten for breakfast or with any pasta dishes. Meanwhile, the soup is so hearty and filling that you can eat it on its own. Perfect for rainy days and cold days. Enjoy!

What Your Clothes Say That You Can't

Apparel remains one of the biggest industries in the United States and abroad. This will almost certainly remain the rule rather than the exception for as long as people are on earth. The reason is simple. People don't just buy clothes to stay warm or modest. They buy clothes in an effort to communicate their own unique style and personality to the social world that they live in. Take a look at anyone's wardrobe and you will learn a lot about that person, whether they enjoy country western clothes or the more traditional and modest jeans and T-shirts that they throw on each day.

Saying it without saying it

No genre of apparel had quite as much impact as the punk wardrobe. When punk first burst onto the music scene, it started a revolution among young folks that continues to this day. And we all know that old punks never grow up either. They also want to continue sporting their favorite punk clothes and paying tribute to the music and culture that inspired them during their lifetime. Outlets like Angry, Young, and Poor have catered to this culture for decades. They do it with ever evolving versions of classics like Tripp pants which let the wearer announce that they are living a certain way.

Why it's important to say it

It's common for society's to try to regulate how citizens dress. We do a lot of split second judging of folks based on what they're wearing. Fortunately, we all know that personal style is important to have and impressions can be wrong. While many people see punk clothing and might misunderstand the culture or sense of fashion, there are legions of folks who have a great time dressing up and wearing what to them is their second nature. This is just who they are and it's written all over the style of their clothes. If something is important, it's worth saying it, and if your style is punk you can say it through your wardrobe without ever uttering a single word at all.

Punk clothing stores and apparel in general continues to make important statements for people year after year. Clothes aren't just fun. They're a wonderful way to explore your own personal taste and leave a lasting impression on the world that has influenced you so much.
