Do Not Leave Your Kids Alone In The Car!

I was horrified watching this video that I stumbled upon on Facebook. It is a video of a mother who drives to the grocery with her baby. For unknown reason, she leaves her infant in the car under the scorching heat of the summer sun and continues with her shopping, not even thinking of going back to the car to check her baby. It was like everything is normal. She's confident that the baby is in perfect condition until an unexpected thing happened.

I am a mother of a 4 year old girl and another baby due next month. As a parent, I think I can never do what she did. Not even in my imagination! I mean, how could you leave your child alone in the car like that? Unless you are out of your mind, you know it is not safe to put your baby in that situation. Okay, she's using a seat belt but no air-conditioning and no accompaniment of an adult?

After watching the video, I googled and realized that this thing happens a lot in the western countries. The usual scenario is, parents will intentionally leave their kids or pet in the car, not knowing that the weather could hurt them, or worse, take their lives. Most of these kids suffer from heat stroke, heat exhaustion, and dehydration.

As parents, it is important that we take proper precaution when driving with kids. Make sure they are safe in the back seat, buckled up and doors locked before starting the engine. Take the responsibility of checking your car if there's anyone left in there before you go. Never let a child stay alone in a parked vehicle, not even a minute or two.

Recently, there were two kids in the news found dead in a parked car somewhere in Taguig. Same kids were reported missing 4 months before. I do not know if there's any foul-play, but the report says they were locked up and probably died of dehydration and exhaustion. Whatever is the reason behind the death of those kids, I think it all goes down to parental responsibility. Lesson learned: always keep an eye on your children.

  1. I think yung sa 2 bata sa taguig. sabi they were locked sa itim na mercedez benz car na abandonado kasi napinsala ng bagyong Ondoy. naglalaro kasi daw ng taguan doon sa parking lot for damaged cars. still, it's saddening. we may not imagine it happening to kids, but it could.

  2. This is scary naman.. Yes, dapat talaga hindi iniiwan yung mga bata sa loob nga sasakyan with any adult. I used to live in Saudi Arabia and I heard scary stuff happening like this too

  3. I don't think kids should be left in cars unattended aside from heat strokes. It's also an opening for kidnappers.

  5. I didn't know it is common practice in the US to leave a child in a car, and without airconditioning pa! Just how a parent can do that to a hapless child is beyond me. Mahirap talaga magdala ng bata pag may errands, but mas mahirap mawalan ng anak.

That video was so. heartbreaking to watch. I hope they make stronger laws against this practice.

  6. This is horrifying. I think it's absolutely absurd for a mother to leave her child in a car alone. I believe there was an incident like this in the US recently, and the child was only a baby of a few months old. These parents should be punished. The is no excuse to leave your kid alone.

  7. I agree, our kids are our responsibility. Kapag di kaya ang responsibility better wag mag-anak. Nakakalungkot pag may mga ganyang scenarios.:(

  9. I actually cried watching the video. That is just so sad and horrifying, especially to a mom like me who's got a kid about that kid's age (in the video). I admit I leave my daughter in the car, but only for a minute tops, and I make sure either the A/C's on the window is open.

  10. Can't believe some parents leave their kids in the car. I think it's stupid and cruel. I can't even leave my kid in a car, not even for a minute, especially in hot weather. Tsk.. Grabe!

  11. Bad. Grabe, I never thought that some parents would actually do that. A car with aircon off under the sun is like an oven. Grabe naman. tsk

  13. Idiots, just plain idiots. I cannot believe these parents would be so ignorant to do that. shiesh.

  14. Grabe lang, I don't understand why people who aren't responsible enough to put the welfare of their children first are gifted with kids. There are so many women out there who want to be mothers but are unable to, and it's heartbreaking that some of those who are given that gift of motherhood take it for granted. :(
