My brother and sister-in-law together with their 3 year old daughter visited us from the province last April. One morning, I pulled out a bottle of Trader Joe's Cookie Butter and told sister-in-law to try the so called yummiest spread in town. I was surprised when she told me that it's no longer new to her 'cause my brother's ninang, who is also their neighbor, gave them cookie butter from the US several times in the past. In the back of my mind, she is lucky that she had a taste of this cookie butter even before it gained popularity in this part of the world.
Nonetheless, I had my first order of Trader Joe's Cookie Butter last March and received them in April, while my order of Lotus Biscoff Cookie Spread in April was just delivered today. Hearing all the fuss about these two brands of cookie spread made me very curious. I know I just have to taste both and post a review myself. So, without further ado, here is the battle between Lotus Biscoff Cookie Spread versus Trader Joe's Cookie Butter!
Lotus Biscoff Cookie Spread face off with Trader Joe's Cookie Butter. Both weigh 400 grams. Lotus claims their spread has natural ingredients, made with Original Biscoff Cookies, the airline cookie. Trader Joe's says theirs has no artificial flavor or preservatives, a spread which is reminiscent of gingerbread and made with crushed biscuits.
Product of Belgium against product of Netherlands. The first has 190 calories and 110 fat calories per serving or per 30 grams, equivalent to 2 tablespoons. The latter has 90 calories and 50 fat calories per serving or per 15 grams, equivalent to 1 tablespoon.
The sight of newly opened jars. Lotus Biscoff Cookie Spread on the left and Trader Joe's Cookie Butter on the right. Notice that Lotus is shiny while Trader Joe's looks somewhat dry.
Let's have a closer look shall we? Hmmm.. Biscoff Cookie Spread looks really creamy, while the contender is looking a bit hard.
Ilabas ang monay (Bring out the monay bread)! Time to spread and put these two into the real test. Trader Joe's Cookie Butter on the left and Lotus Biscoff Cookie Spread on the right. Isn't it obvious?
Which cookie butter spread tastes better? Lotus Biscoff Cookie Spread or Trader Joe's Cookie Butter? What brand do you think I liked better? :)
The Final Verdict
I don't think I will buy Trader Joe's Cookie Butter again. Both their crunchy version and creamy version are not good enough for me. I admit, I like the fact that it is not too sweet, but do not like the hint of gingerbread.
As for Lotus Biscoff Cookie Spread, I like it A LOT. It is smoother and more spreadable. My every bite of a bread with this cookie spread is satisfying. In fact, I can imagine seeing it in my kitchen all year long. However, it sweeter and has more calories per serving so I have to be careful not to eat too much of it. Haha.
For orders of Lotus Biscoff Cookie Spread, Trader Joe's Cookie Butter, and other spreads and sweets from US, I strongly recommend that you look for Joe & Cherry in Facebook or Instagram. I promise you, they have the cheapest price in town.
