by Robert Herrick
Gather ye rosebuds while ye may,
Old Time is still a-flying:
And this same flower that smiles to-day
To-morrow will be dying.
The glorious lamp of heaven, the sun,
The higher he's a-getting,
The sooner will his race be run,
And nearer he's to setting.
That age is best which is the first,
When youth and blood are warmer;
But being spent, the worse, and worst
Times still succeed the former.
Then be not coy, but use your time,
And while ye may, go marry:
For having lost but once your prime,
You may for ever tarry.

ReplyDeleteIn actuality though, the words are simple. It equates to TIME IS GOLD and SEIZE THE DAY. As a working mother especially, it tells me to prioritize things. It tells me to spend my time with things and people who matter most. No regrets!

the poem tells me that time is the most valuable thing a man can spend. We should give our best in everything we do and enjoy every moment of it. Because time flies and can never be found again. So regretting for wasted time is more wasted time.

Such a lovely poem Ateh, I think the idea of the poem is act now before it’s too late - the day is fleeting so seize the day while you are young.
ReplyDeleteIt is true that the time is fast approaching; we are not going to be young forever. Time will come we are going to get old and we can't prevent our self to get older. So we have to do the things we have to do today, don’t wait for tomorrow to come let’s all forget the word maƱana habit. Act now or never as it says! Live life to the fullest so there’s no regret in the future.

ReplyDeleteI love this part in the poem:
Then be not coy, but use your time,
And while ye may, go marry:
For having lost but once your prime,
You may for ever tarry.
It only means seize the day, seize every opportunity you have. Otherwise, you may go ahead and regret everything, we can never turn back time.
